Lionhearted winners in Round 1

Congratulations to all those who backed the Lions in Round 1 but sadly your achievements have been overshadowed by yours truly ranking fifth in the world for Fantasy Rugby…I expect a call from the Bok selection committee shortly.

Devout Lions fan Chris Fennell aka ‘Fenzi’ has shot to the top with a whopping 3.5 points in Round 1 courtesy of a near spot on pick for the Lions v Cheetahs game. Closely behind him is Shaun Campbell (‘Cambox’) on 2.5 points, but perhaps a greater round of applause should go to Andrew Beach (‘Beachanator’) who along with Fenzie was the only person to correctly predict the winning team in both (all) matches. Special mention also goes out to Gareth Liddell (SupaVuna) and Keith Scott (kpscott1012) for picking up the SuperBru Wooden Spoon award in Round 1.

The rest of the pelaton trapped on the 1.5 mark, but not to worry, this next weekend will separate the Batmans from the Robins.

I myself never backed the Lions, nor will I, as SuperBru is a game in which the tortoise more often than not tends to beat the hare and essentially one swallow doesn’t make a summer. This weekend’s matches look tricky with a host of derbies lined up barring the Sharks clash against Beauden Barrett and the Sundance Kids (Hurricanes). The only obvious picks this weekend seem to be the Waratahs over the Force and the Blues over the Highlanders, even so it’s difficult to shoot from the hip when you don’t know what lies ahead.

In terms of Fantasy Rugby, there are not as many people playing and I don’t blame you. It’s fairly tedious, but when you have an eye for talent like I do then you just can’t resist playing. No one likes a person who brags, but lying fifth in the world is more of an ego boost than scoring a try for the Boks in front of a packed Ellis Park…or so I’d imagine! I doubt I’ll stay there for very long, but then I’m sure that’s what MS Dhoni thought of Brendan McCullum on Sunday morning!

Special mention in the Fantasy Rugby must also go to first timer Timmy Hancox’s team “ThatsASpade” who are second in the Division and 37th in the world! It’s also probably worth your while to check out his blog That’s a Spade.

SuperBru Yellow Cap: Chris Fennell (Fenzie)
